Celler Mas La Mola

2011 L'Atzar, Celler Mas La Mola, Priorat x 6 2013-2017 6 Bottles £70.50 £99.00: A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Syrah and Carignano from a selection of the estate’s younger vines (average age 20 years). Deeply coloured, this gorgeous Spanish red is packed with juicy blueberry, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, with a gentle hint of oak complexity. Rich and finely balanced, with soft, smooth tannins and fresh redcurrant acidity providing lift and energy through the flamboyant and long finish. This delicious, fine value red is a splendid introduction to the style of Priorat.

Clos Mogador is run by René Barbier - a pupil of Jean-Claude Berrouet, the winemaker at Château Pétrus. The Clos Mogador estate has 20 hectares of vines around Gratallops, and has rightly earned an outstanding reputation for the excpetionnal quality of its wines.

2009 Clos Mogador, René Barbier, Priorat x 6 2015-2029 6 Bottles £230.00 £290.40: "The 2009 Clos Mogador has a more opulent, luscious bouquet than the 2008, with lifted, high-toned floral fruit (iodine, star anise and sloe) and a smudge of warm alcohol. The palate is full-bodied with succulent, gamey dark fruits and an underlying earthiness that should develop with bottle age. Rotllan

A small estate founded in 1984 by Jordi Rotllan - one of the great pioneers of Priorat.

2001 Torra Tirant, Rotllan, Priorat x 6 2005-2020 6 Bottles £340.00 £427.20: "A prodigious effort, the 2001 Tirant is a 9,000-bottle cuvee made from 30% Grenache (90-100 years old), 25% Carignan (90-100 years old), 25% young vine Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. Fermented in large oak foudres and aged 12 months in new French oak, it will be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Inky/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a spectacular bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and the region’s classic crushed stone minerality. This full-throttle yet remarkably elegant 2001 possesses tremendous intensity and texture as well as layers of flavor, but comes across as not over the top, overripe, or overly heavy. The 60-second finish reveals more noticeable tannin than the other cuvees. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 10-15. Vega del Castillo

Vines have been planted in this part of Navarra – the Ribera Alta – around the town of Olitefor over 900 years. The Vega winery was founded in 1910, and totally restructured in 1999, focusing on the production of inexpensive wines made to the most exacting standards. These are delicious, user-friendly wines at an extremely attractive price.

2011 Tempranillo, Vega del Castillo, Navarra x 6 2012-2014 6 Bottles £28.00 £47.40: Pure Tempranillo – a variety which ripens early and which can therefore be harvested before the sugars (and therefore potential alcohol) start to dominate. Deep ruby red colour, lovely flavours of wild blackberry fruit and soft, rounded tannins.

Vega del Castillo

2011 Viura Chardonnay, Vega del Castillo Blanco, Navarra x 6 2012-2014 6 Bottles TBA £48.60: The local grape variety – Viura – is blended with Chardonnay to produce a pale lemon coloured wine which balances perfectly the zest of the Viura with the buttery ripeness of the Chardonnay. Fresh, aromatic and crisp.
