Indaba

Zulu for ‘meeting of minds’, the Indaba wines are made by the celebrated winemaker Bruwer Raats.  The grapes come from a number of vineyards in the Robertson, Wellington and Breede River Valley regions.  A portion of the profits from the venture funds a scholarship programme that supports wine-related studies for students from, according to the web-site, “formerly disenfranchised communities in South Africa”.

Very dark ruby red colour. Fabulous briary scents. Seductive and full of ripe wild berry fruit on the palate. Fine grained tannins and gentle acidity give elegance and length to the finish.

Kaapzicht

Danie Steytler is considered one of the finest winemakers in South Africa – indeed he is a winner of the Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande ‘Blended Red Wine’ trophy at the International Wine & Spirit Competition – an award which coincided with the 20th anniversary of bottling wine at the estate.  Kaapzicht lies up in the Bottelary Hills, facing towards Table Mountain; the farm was first mentioned in 1712, and has belonged to the Steytler family since 1946.  Danie runs these 135 hectares of vineyards with the help of his brother George and his wife Yngvild, making wines of great quality and terrific value.
