Champagne
The Champagne region produces the world's most famous sparkling wines from 3 principal vineyard areas - the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne. In addition, there are considerable plantings further south, in the Aube. Although often considered of inferior quality - and it is true that the greatest Champagne's come from the Grand Cru vineyards of the three main areas - there are many good growers in the Aube producing high quality fruit particulary from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines (the best Chardonnays coming, as the name implies, from the Côte des Blancs). We work with a number of well known marques, while our 'house' Champagne, Jacques Lorent, is made for us by the well known firm of Beaumont des Crayères.

Jacques Laurent
Champagne Jacques Lorent is based in the village of Mardeuil, close to Epernay at the heart of Champagne country. All the fruit used for the Lorent wines comes from the Epernay region and is supplied by 250 small-scale growers, many of whom own less than a hectare of vines. Growing and vinification follow traditional methods, as does the winemaking. Champagne is a blended wine, both in terms of grape variety and vintage. The Jacques Lorent wines are blended from three different vintages, and from the three classic grape varieties of the region: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (or the latter two for the Rosé). It is the art of blending which lies behind the great wines of Champagne, allowing a consistent style and quality to be maintained year after year, an art which the team here has perfected.

2000 Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill x 3 Magnums2012-20303 Magnums£545.00£671.55
- "The first thing that is evident about the 2000 Brut Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill is its finesse and total silkiness. The 2000 is a rich, creamy and deeply expressive Winston Churchill. I don’t see the 2000 being an especially long-term ager, but it is wonderfully radiant and open today. Hints of pastry, spice, apricots and succulent ripe pears blossom on the expansive, broad-shouldered finish. 94" Antonio Galloni in Robert Parker
